Bissonet Plaza Elementary Artist Residency Day 4 – December 10, 2012
on December 12, 2012Friends:
Today was my fourth day at Bissonnet Plaza Elementary. My first visit was actually an assembly program for pre-K and kindergarten classes. It was held in the cafeteria and the students and I had so much fun. I performed Beware, Beware of the Big Bad Bear, Dinosaur Mardi Gras, and “Bandana Man.” The little ones are so adorable!
My next class was Ms. Brumfield’s fifth grade students. She had a substitute in the class and the students were a little boisterous. I really had to admonish them and counsel them on the expected behavior. This was disappointing because all of the students have “grown up” with me. Once we had our talk, the students settled down and we were able to get some work done. I shared my story of The Little “Read” Hen and taught them the stages of writing, including brainstorming, researching, outlining, drafting, editing, and proofing. They made their little six page books out of one single sheet of paper. They also began writing stories using the prompts I gave them of two animal characters and a situation.
Next, I headed to Ms. Fury’s third grade class. I shared The Little “Read” Hen . They made the 6 page books outlining all the steps of writing. Then we brainstormed a story together. It was so much fun! Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures but I got a great video if them singing me “We Wish You a Merry Christmas!” So cute!
My last class was missed Tonguis’s first grade class. I shared my story, Beware, Beware of the Big Bad Bear and Dinosaur Mardi Gras. The class made their dinosaur Mardi Gras masks and they came out so cute! Ms. Tonguis even posed for the camera. Adorable!
It was another spectacular day at Bissonet!
Until next time…
Warmly, Dianne
